The Raspberry Pi is a single-board nano-computer with an ARM processor, about the size of a credit card, designed by professors in the Computer Science Department at the University of Cambridge under the auspices of the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

The Raspberry Pi was created to democratize access to computers and digital making (a term encompassing both problem-solving skills and technical and IT expertise). This democratization is possible due to the Raspberry Pi’s low cost, as well as free and open-source software. The Raspberry Pi can run several variants of the free GNU/Linux operating system, including Debian and Ubuntu, as well as compatible software.
